Arnold has a string of hits to his credit as well. The two were holidaying together in Jamaica and thought it would good if they collaborated on a song. When they returned from the Caribbean they hooked up in Los Angeles and started to work. They wanted to write a song which was classical rock but in a homage to Jamaica had reggae elements.
How to beat the slot is the story of a person who is battling drug addiction. Slot is the term for heroin. A young boy became hooked to it when his pregnant mother was giving birth to him. She was a junkie and passed the addiction to slot on to him. He know wants to know how to beat the slot. He tries everything and it all fails and his last hope is a convent in Pisa. There he is weaned off the horrible poison and beats the slot. With gentle percussion and some woodwind instruments as well the song has a wonderful chorus.
